Reese Witherspoon was born on March 22, 1976 in New Orleans, Louisiana, in the United States. Her father is an ear and nose surgeon and a former lieutenant colonel, while her mother Betty has a doctorate in nursing and is a professor at Vanderbilt University. The Witherspoon family has origins in the United States dating back more than 200 years and is the grandson of John Witherspoon, the person who signed the independence of the United States, and the founder of Princeton University.
