Biography, Life story
Faisal Al-Qasim was born on June 3, 1961 in the village of Al-Tha’la, in the Syrian governorate of As-Suwayda. He is a member of the Druze community in Syria, and he is the brother-in-law of the artist Majd Al-Qasim. He graduated in 1983 from Damascus University with a BA in English literature, then obtained a PhD in English literature from the British University of Hull in 1990.
He trained and worked as a presenter and preparer for Arabic programs at the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) between 1988 and 1989, and worked as a presenter on MBC TV in 1991, and as a news program presenter for BBC Arabic between 1994 and 1996, then moved to ( Al Jazeera) and gained fame through his weekly show (The Opposite Direction). He writes weekly articles for the Qatari newspaper Al Sharq, and has also written for the UAE newspaper Gulf News.
He also has a collection of books: Politics and Literature, Save and Shut Up, The Missing Dialogue in Arab Culture, Nothing.
In 2016, Faisal Al Qassem had a hair transplant, as he was suffering from baldness.

He received the Medal of Excellence for the most influential person in the Arab world in the field of media from the International College of Waldenburg, and through the Scientific Committee at the level of the Arab world, and through the Chairman of the Committee, the Regional Director of the College in the Middle East, Dr. Muhammad Mahmoud Al-Jamsi, Dr. Faisal Al-Qasim was chosen to grant him this Medal in May 2012.
