Biography, Life story

Avril Lavigne is a French-Canadian rock and pop singer, born on September 27, 1984 in Belleville, Ontario, Canada. Franco-Ontarians, although of French origins, do not speak the language, and their name is usually pronounced in English instead of French, and the word April means April, and Lavigne refers to the stems of grapes.

Lavigne moved to Nappanee, Ontario when she was five years old, and attended Cornerstone Christian Academy as a teenager. Although she did not excel academically, she was distinguished athletically in terms of running and track games, and hockey, where she was chosen as the best player for two consecutive years. Usually unlike girls her age, she had boyish or manly hobbies such as skateboarding – since she was fourteen, hunting and camping, owing to her older brother’s example. In addition, she taught herself how to play the guitar and some other instruments, and she continued to sing in church and in public areas, especially folk and country songs, which led to the discovery of many Canadian singers of her talent. A year, he invited her to sing with him on some of his songs from the album he was going to release. At the age of thirteen, she won a singing competition, which enabled Canadian singer Shania Twain to perform at her Toronto concert by singing one of Twain’s songs “What Made You Say That” together.

Lavigne was discovered by her first business manager, Cliff Fabri. At the age of fifteen, her talent caught the attention of L.A. Red, president of Arista, and his company immediately established her first singing contract and collaborated with her on her first album, Let Go, the following year. When she secured the contract, she gave up studying in the eleventh grade, and she said she did not understand anything in terms of releasing albums and songs during that period.

After that, Lavigne moved to New York City in the United States, where she met with a group of the best authors and music producers, but she was disappointed in the quality of the work, so she had to move to Los Angeles, where she was able to contact the composer Cliff Magnes and the Matrix team (a team consisting of a group of the authors), and she co-wrote her songs with them. By the age of 17, she released her first album, “Let Go”.

Lavigne’s debut album was an instant hit in a large number of countries, which made her one of the best and most successful new singers of the time, as many young singers began to adapt her rebellious style in their songs, launched a new trend in fashion, and most importantly, she received several International nominations, awards and certificates. Releases and albums rolled after this success.

Lavigne is considered one of the most famous and successful singers, as her music is usually dominated by a rebellious or “punk” style, as she presents herself as an ordinary teenage boyish, and her music generally talks about teenagers, especially on her first album, which made her a distinguished position in the musical community.

Her music genres are not only rock and pop, but also alternative rock, teen pop, and pop rock. She is also good at playing various instruments, including the piano, drums and guitar, but critics doubt her ability to play the latter, claiming that her ability is limited to playing the basic keys only.

Lavigne showed an interest in acting, especially in recent times, as she appeared on television or films to sing one of her songs at first, but later deepened. According to Lavigne, she considers acting as another way to show her talents and feelings.

Lavigne embraces Christianity and follows the Catholic doctrine, and she usually sings with the chorus in the church, and this was credited with discovering her talent.

After passing through her adolescence, Lavigne went through many changes in her style, dress, and even demeanor, and she was sometimes the focus of some types of controversy for the image she presents about herself.

Personal and emotional life

Lavigne began dating Canadian rock singer Derek Webley of the band Deaf 41 in 2004, and at the end of that year Lavigne tattooed a heart with the letter “D” inside, which is supposed to refer to Derek’s name. Lavigne and Whipley announced their engagement nearly a year later, on July 27, 2005, when he proposed to her at the end of Lavigne’s “Bons” tour, during a walk in Venice. The couple tied the knot with a Catholic wedding ceremony in the presence of 110 people in a private area in Montecito, California on July 15, 2006, and their first dance took place to the tune of “Iris” by “The Go Go Dolls”.
When Lavigne was asked why she was wearing a white Vera Wang wedding dress, other than her rebellious image, she replied that she was confused in this aspect and really wanted a marriage that matched that image, but according to her: “I didn’t want to look at the wedding photos after the wedding 20 years ago and I ask myself why did I choose that hairstyle? Lavigne also describes herself as “the best thing that ever happened to her husband”, and that their relationship is incredibly strong. Besides, she does not regret marrying at this age because she is mature, although she did not expect to marry at this age. She also stated that she is not currently ready to have children, but she hopes to do so in the future. On September 17, 2009, it was announced that Lavigne and Whipley had separated, and that the divorce was about to occur, and on October 9, 2009, Lavigne filed for divorce, but it was not actually confirmed, legally, until November 16, 2010.
